Seniority: Intermediate Location: Remote Type: Full-time Duration: 3 month placement with possibility of extension About Bitback: Bitback, a Techstars portfolio company (20') and former IDEO CoLab resident (19'), is a cashback rewards application that puts a bit of money back into the pockets of young people across Africa and around the globe.
Users earn cashback rewards for each and every purchase they make from their favourite retailers through the app. Merchants and service providers are able to reach and retain young consumers through special offers and rewards. Bitback has a fast growing waitlist of over 4100 people in Uganda who are excited to download the Android app. Our vision is to create new income streams for young people and fuel their entrepreneurial spirits.

For more information, please visit: https://www.bitbackapp.com/about Your Role: As the UX/Product Designer at Bitback, you will be designing our web-based platform for businesses from the ground up and iterating on our existing Android application. This is a unique opportunity to join an early stage startup where, as the sole designer, you will have a tremendous impact on the product that will eventually be launched to businesses and consumers in East Africa. Our ideal candidate would have experience working at a small startup and is passionate about our mission to put money into the pockets of young people across Africa and fuelling entrepreneurial spirits.
As the UX/Product Designer, you will: - Own the design of our web-based portal for merchants from idea to launch, this will require collaborative user research and testing initiatives - Rapidly produce multiple concepts and prototypes for the web-based portal and validate these through a variety of user testing techniques - Complete the final designs for handoff to engineering for the web-based portal - Own the design of our Android app including multiple iterations with the aim of gamifying the experience for users - Execute on UI prototypes for Android through to final visual designs that scale across devices and OSs from entry level Android phones through to the latest Google Pixel - Work closely with the Bitback CEO & CTO to scope out and define the product roadmap and design, contributing to strategic design decisions - Transform broad business requirements into user friendly designs - Lead user research initiatives and incorporate this research into your design solutions - Give and solicit real time feedback from the team on design concepts to always strive for the highest quality of work - Provide guidance to junior team members in user research roles
You might be a fit for this role if: - Have 3+ years of experience designing products with experience working on mobile consumer-facing products and web-based products built for businesses - If you are a talented junior designer with less than 3 years of experience, we would love to hear from you too! Please apply 😉 - Experience designing financial apps, social apps or mobile games - Experience with or understanding of gamification and incentivization mechanisms - A portfolio that demonstrates love for excellent design and showcases your broad skills including user research, UX, UI, persona creation, interaction design and visual design - Experience working on cross-functional teams, frequently and proactively soliciting feedback and leading design discussions - Have excellent visual design skills and the ability to translate high-level requirements into beautiful, simple, flexible and intuitive user interfaces - Care deeply about details and getting things pixel perfect but also knowing when a low fidelity wireframe is sufficient to test an idea - Have great intuition about user needs and are able to validate these with user research, testing and data to make strong design decisions - Experience thinking about product strategy (not just product design) - Experience with Android design - Advanced/expert experience with Figma or Sketch, we use Figma primarily so you must be willing to learn it - Are able to commit to a minimum 2 month contract, with the possibility of contract extension or transition into full-time employment
