Seniority: Mid-Senior Location: Remote Type: Full-time Equity: Stock option grants possible Start Date: August or September 2020 About Bitback: Bitback, a Techstars portfolio company (20') and former IDEO CoLab resident (19'), is a cashback rewards application that puts a bit of money back into the pockets of young people across Africa and around the globe. Bitback is currently part of the DMZ incubator in Toronto, Canada.
Users earn cashback rewards for each and every purchase they make from their favourite retailers through the app. Merchants and service providers are able to reach and retain young consumers through special offers and rewards. Bitback has a fast growing waitlist of over 4100 people in Uganda who are excited to download the Android app. Our vision is to create new income streams for young people and fuel their entrepreneurial spirits.

For more information, please visit: https://www.bitbackapp.com/about Your Role: As the Backend Developer at Bitback, you will help design and implement our web-based platform for businesses from the ground up and iterate on our existing customer application. This is a unique opportunity to join an early stage startup where, as the second backend developer, you will have a tremendous impact on the product that will eventually be launched to businesses and consumers in East Africa. Our ideal candidate would have experience working at a small startup and is passionate about our mission to put money into the pockets of young people across Africa and fueling entrepreneurial spirits. As our Golang Backend developer, you will: - Help design and implement our web based platform for businesses - Develop and maintain features in our customer application - Ensuring up-to-date documentation of technical documents and code - Review other people’s code to always ensure quality and consistency - Continuously improve application features, functionality, architecture or systems - Mentor junior team member(s), with lots of opportunity to grow your career. - Work with a large arsenal of technologies such as Golang, Postgres, Redis, Kafka (and others) in a fast-paced environment that lets you make an impact every day.
You might be a fit for this role if: - 3+ years of experience in a backend or full-stack engineering role, including all phases of the product life cycle, preferably working at a startup. - At least 2+ years of experience writing Golang applications - Have experience working on mobile app backends or web-based products built for businesses - Experience working on cross-functional teams, frequently and proactively soliciting feedback and leading design discussions - Ability to write clean and robust code in Go - Knowledge of fundamental web languages (HTML/CSS/JS) - Knowledge of software design principles (Domain Driven Design) - Comfortable working in a Linux environment - Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills - Experience building and integrating with REST APIs. - Experience with various cloud service providers (AWS, Azure, GCP)
You will stand out in this role if: - Strong knowledge of AWS and its offerings - Experience going through a GDPR/ISO 27001/SOC2 certification process - Experience with data engineering - Prior E-commerce/cashback application experience - Strong background in SQL and/or NoSQL database management
